My mother spent a great deal of her time during World War II in the American Theatre Wing. She traveled to hospitals to play music for recovering soldiers. I have always admired her dedication to that service.
I think about her as I realize that I have spent most of my life helping others as well — working in addiction treatment, helping seniors transition to elder care, serving as a member of the Lexington, MA School Board, and serving as a member of town meetings in Lexington and Arlington, MA.
Nashua is the most diverse community in New Hampshire. We have people who have lived here all their lives and people who have moved here from out of the state and out of the country. We have communities throughout the city that reflect this diversity and a broad range of political opinions as well.
We have excellent job opportunities, beautiful parks, good schools, well-managed public services, and great places for recreation. I have spent evenings at Holman Stadium watching the Silver Knights, walked in Mine Falls Park, borrowed books from our amazing public library, and eaten at many of our wonderful restaurants.
As I’ve spoken with people in Nashua, I find that we’re all looking for the same things. We want to feel safe where we live, work, shop, and play. We want to feel secure in our economic lives. We want our children to be educated well, and to have what they need to prosper in the future. We want to be able to make choices about how we live. We want to know that we will have the care we need as we age, and that we will be able to afford our medicines.
Remembering those wings, I learned the importance of service from my family. It would be an honor to work as your State Representative, knowing that we all have the same basic needs and wants, serving Ward 1 in a way that supports our entire community.
